Helping People Return to Work

Bush and Company offer vocational case management under the Rehabilitation Code of Best Practice.

Vocational Case Management

The Rehabilitation Code of Best Practice (2001) was introduced to ‘promote the use of rehabilitation and early intervention in the claims process, so that the injured person makes the best and quickest possible medical, social and psychological recovery.’

We are dedicated to helping rehabilitate personal injury claimants to return to work, either with their current employer, or with a new employer.

Our case managers’ skills include specialist nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, as well as specific rehabilitation qualifications. The team’s expertise includes case managing the entire spectrum of head and spinal injuries, as well as psychological and stress-related injuries.

Options for returning to work

Working with the client, we look at the many options available for returning to work; these can include a return to previous employment, the need for ergonomic adjustments to the workplace, access issues, retraining needs or alternative employment.

How Does Vocational Case Management Work?

Initially, our case manager meets with the individual to carry out a complete assessment of their rehabilitation potential and to discuss the options available for employment. We can identify if there is a need for alternative equipment or assistive devices, for example specialist seating, voice activated software or the need for a support worker. From this assessment, the case manager can prepare and facilitate a plan for a structured return to work.

In particular, the case manager can help prepare the individual’s current workplace for a return to work, providing information on any necessary adjustments, under the Disability Discrimination Act 1997. Where this is not appropriate, the case manager can propose a plan for retraining for alternative employment.

Phased Return to Work

Bush & Company are also involved in negotiating and facilitating a phased return to work with employers, who may require support and reassurance during an employee’s reintroduction to the workplace as well as liaising with employment agencies where appropriate.
